Revitalize a long-dormant but critical property in south Scottsdale after years of failed efforts, while creating a dynamic new center for employment, innovation and technology.

The Strategy

The completed project will be a vigorous, 21st century center for innovation, commercialization, entrepreneurship and business development. Strategically located between downtown Scottsdale and the ASU main campus in Tempe, SkySong is and will be a catalyst for the revitalization and redevelopment of the area. Since SkySong was announced in 2005, private investments in new businesses and residential developments have emerged as a result. Plaza Companies was selected by the ASU Foundation as the developer and property manager for the project.

Rising from the ashes of a long-dormant retail property, SkySong, The ASU Scottsdale Innovation Center is now a dynamic center for innovation and technology located in the heart of the bustling Phoenix metropolitan area, with close proximity to all the amenities any company could want in a corporate office.  SkySong is a mixed-use development consisting of 1.2 million square feet of office and retail space at full build out in addition to residential units and an Element Scottsdale hotel. Organized around a central plaza with the project’s signature, iconic shade structure and a grand boulevard lined at ground floor with retail, SkySong is designed for innovative companies whose global business success is enhanced by a facilitated collaboration with ASU’s human and technological assets. 

SkySong has become one of the most renowned development projects in Arizona. Its three current buildings have received LEED Silver Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council and Energy Star Designation from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The project has also been named “Best of NAIOP” by the National Association of Office and Industrial Properties-Arizona Chapter, and has received an Award of Merit from Valley Forward.

The master plan for SkySong was recently revamped to prepare the property for its next phases. Design approval has been granted by the City of Scottsdale for the fourth building on the site, and plans for additional buildings are underway as well. For more information, visit or
